This role is on-site at our Manufacturing Plant in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is not a remote opportunity.

Scope:

The Quality Assurance Manager ensures that products manufactured in our plants meet Heartland Food Products Group standards and regulatory requirements. This role aligns quality systems across plants, maintains commitment to Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards, and participates in training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, GMP adherence, and effective food safety programs. Lead regulatory interactions.
  • Implement and maintain plant quality systems according to corporate guidance.
  • Standardize quality monitoring and programs through Plant Quality Supervisors.
  • Support daily operations to meet business, customer, and consumer expectations efficiently and effectively.
  • Review customer complaints and deviations, and oversee corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Identify root causes of quality issues to reduce deviations.
  • Collaborate with teams to improve product quality and reduce costs.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Develop and revise standards for inspection, sampling, testing, and evaluation.
  • Maintain effective communication between Quality and Production departments.
  • Assist in developing succession and training plans for the quality team.
  • Develop and update SOPs supporting quality systems.
  • Participate actively in HACCP and Food Safety teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of food processing experience; 6+ years in manufacturing, with FDA and HACCP knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with food plant sanitation, SQF, FDA regulations.
  • Critical thinker with process improvement experience and results orientation.
  • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Proven leadership and team development abilities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and corrective action skills.
  • Ability to work independently with leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic planning and implementation skills.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, stooping, lifting up to 40 pounds, and walking throughout the plant.
  • Work may include extended hours, overtime, and occasional weekends.
  • Visual acuity for documentation and record-keeping.
