Job summary

Phoenix Stamping Group is seeking a Quality and Safety Engineer to support all plants with quality and safety initiatives. The role reports to the PHX Director of Quality and Safety and focuses on training, audits, and continuous improvement.

You will develop and maintain quality documentation, coordinate CAPA activities, and participate in PPAP duties while ensuring compliance with ISO standards and a safe, efficient manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of blueprint reading and ability to use measuring tools and test equipment.
• Understanding and interpretation of Quality tools including SPC, Gage R&R, and Metrology tools.
• Knowledge of lean problem solving tools such as A3, 8D, RCCA, and corrective action programs.
• Willing to travel up to 40% of time for site audits and launches.

Responsibilities

• SAFETY: train personnel, conduct safety audits, manage JSA activities.
• PRODUCTION SUPPORT: maintain quality process docs to ISO standards, analyze metrics, manage MRB/DMR.
• FLOOR AUDITS: audit production processes for part quality and process control.
• PART/COMPONENT INSPECTIONS: inbound inspection, ERP disposition, PPAP readiness.
• DIMENSIONAL CONTROL: maintain fixtures, measurement equipment, calibrations.
• ROOT CAUSE/CORRECTIVE ACTION: respond to complaints, RCCA/8D, corrective actions.

Job Description

Title: Quality and Safety Engineer

Reports to: PHX Director of Quality and Safety

Job Purpose: Aid the Director of Quality and Safety for all quality and safety related activities across all plants

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• SAFETY
  • Train manufacturing personnel in principles of:
    • Weekly Safety Kata Topics;
    • Safety Alerts;
    • Monthly Safety Training;
  • Conduct periodic wall to wall safety audits in different facilities;
  • Aid in managing the JSA activities in each plant;
• PRODUCTION SUPPORT
  • Maintain and evaluate quality process documentation to certified ISO standards;
  • Maintain and analyze quality metric/performance reporting documentation;
  • Help manage the MRB/DMR processes at each facility;
  • Conduct weekly Process Audits and report findings;
• FLOOR AUDITS
  • Audit production processes for:
    • Part quality;
    • Process control;
    • Internal ISO certification
  • Perform process documentation audits to identify performance gaps;
• PART/COMPONENT INSPECTIONS FOR VALIDATION AND VERIFICATION
  • Perform purchased component incoming inspection and ERP disposition;
  • Develop and maintain part and process documentation;
  • Disposition non-conforming material/product;
  • Validate initial production samples to established requirements and prepare for customer submission;
• DIMENSIONAL CONTROL/MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS
  • Participate in quality control fixture design, qualification and maintenance;
  • Maintain measurement equipment, calibrations and certifications (where applicable);
• Support new part launch meetings and update quality-related project actions
• Perform capability study for new parts, analyze data, and recommend improvements
• Prepare PPAP documentation, including control plans, PFMEA, and first part inspection reports.
• ROOT CAUSE/CORRECTIVE ACTION ACTIVITIES
  • Respond to customer complaints in a timely manner;
  • Lead root cause assessment using RCCA/8D;
  • Actively participate in corrective action development programs;

Key Measures of Success:

• Customer Complaints
• Cost of Quality (COPQ)
• Number of Reportable Incidents
• 6S Audit

Qualifications

• Technical degree or certificate and/or equivalent work experience involving Quality and/or Manufacturing roles and responsibilities.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of blueprint reading and ability to use measuring tools and test equipment.
• Understanding and interpretation of Quality tools including but not limited to SPC, Gage R & R, and Metrology tools.
• Knowledge of lean problem solving tools and techniques such as A3, 8D, and Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA).
• Welding experience preferred
• Thorough knowledge of what makes up a working quality management system. The ability to clearly generate standard operating procedures and work instructions as well as reports.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite
• Must be willing and able to travel ~40% of time
• Team player who enjoys challenging situations
