A well-established precision metals manufacturer outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin is seeking a Quality/Compliance Manager to own the quality management system and lead the quality and inspection team. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who can operate at the systems level while still rolling up their sleeves alongside the team when needed. The company serves customers across aerospace, defense, medical, agriculture, and other industries, and operates under ISO 9001:2015 certification with an active defense customer base requiring ITAR and DFARS compliance.
With a mature QMS already in place and a facility expansion currently underway, the person stepping into this role will have real infrastructure to build on and a genuine mandate to grow with the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Management System
- Lead, manage, and continuously enhance the company’s Quality Management System (QMS), including customer and supplier compliance requirements.
- Implement and maintain APQP, PPAP, ISO standards, and other applicable quality and compliance requirements throughout the organization.
- Manage QOPs and DWIs, ensuring all documentation remains accurate, up to date, and consistently followed.
- Oversee the company’s calibration program and ensure all measurement and inspection equipment is calibrated in accordance with ISO requirements.
- Monitor quality throughout incoming inspection, in-process manufacturing, and final/post-production activities, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective measures.
- Promote clear and timely communication of quality and process information across manufacturing, operations, sales, and leadership teams.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and prioritization for the Quality and Inspection team.
- Assess team capabilities, identify training and development opportunities, and support ongoing performance improvement.
- Develop, coordinate, and ensure completion of quality and safety training programs across the organization.
- Work alongside the Quality and Inspection team as needed, providing hands-on support with inspections and related documentation.
Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
- Ensure quality issues and non-conformances are identified, documented, investigated, and addressed promptly.
- Lead or support Corrective Action, Engineering Change Notice (ECN), Return Material Authorization (RMA), and PPAP activities.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and drive effective corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring issues.
Safety Program
- Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the company’s safety program.
- Identify organizational safety training requirements and ensure appropriate training programs are established and completed.
- Support Federal Contracting Reviews and ongoing DFARS compliance activities.
- Assist with the oversight and execution of the company’s CMMC program and related initiatives.
- Manage and maintain customer, supplier, and other applicable compliance requirements.
- Lead and administer the company’s Continuous Improvement (CI) program and support the successful execution of improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and processes across the organization.
- Provide hands-on support with dimensional inspection and inspection documentation when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Quality Management role, preferably within precision metals, machining, fabrication, or contract manufacturing.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and a solid working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, with the ability to independently manage projects and follow through on commitments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and proactively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- A hands-on leadership approach and willingness to work directly on the manufacturing floor alongside the team.
- An engineering degree is preferred but not required; relevant industry experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated capabilities will be given significant consideration.
- Ability to work full-time onsite, with limited remote flexibility available when business needs permit
