Job summary

Rhoads Industries, a long‑established provider of industrial fabrication and maritime services in Philadelphia, seeks a Quality Improvement Specialist to analyze quality data, identify trends, and drive continual improvement across Quality, Operations, Engineering, Contracts, and Procurement.

You will lead the Quality Alert System, support supplier quality activities, and participate in audits to uphold our high quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Data Analytics, or related field.
• Strong understanding of quality control methodologies, tools, and engineering principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Personnel Security Clearance.
• Ability to interpret customer requirements and guide the organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the internal Quality Alert System, documenting and closing quality issues.

We are currently looking for a Quality Improvement Specialist to join our dynamic, fast‑paced, and growing team. The Quality Improvement Specialist at Rhoads Industries is responsible for analyzing quality data, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement, and supporting the organization’s quality management system. This position manages the internal Quality Alert System, including the collection, review, analysis, and reporting of quality‑related information to identify recurring issues, emerging trends, and opportunities for corrective and preventive action.

The Quality Improvement Specialist works closely with Quality, Operations, Engineering, Contracts, Procurement, and other functional teams to support continual improvement initiatives, corrective actions, supplier quality activities, and quality audits. The position also supports Supplier Quality Engineering activities through supplier performance analysis, supplier audits, corrective action follow‑up, and monitoring supplier compliance with applicable quality requirements.

What You Will Be Doing

Quality Data & Quality Alert System

• Manage and maintain the company’s internal Quality Alert System, ensuring quality issues are accurately documented, tracked, communicated, and closed in a timely manner.
• Collect, organize, and analyze quality data from inspections, Quality Alerts, nonconformances, corrective actions, supplier performance, audits, and other quality activities.
• Develop and maintain quality metrics, dashboards, and reports to identify trends, recurring issues, and areas of risk.
• Analyze quality data to identify root causes, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Provide regular quality performance reporting to Quality leadership and appropriate stakeholders.
• Ensure Quality Alerts are effectively communicated to affected departments and that appropriate actions are identified and tracked.
• Monitor corrective actions resulting from Quality Alerts and verify timely completion and effectiveness.
• Maintain accurate and traceable quality records and documentation.

Continual Improvement

• Identify and support continual improvement projects based on quality data, operational performance, customer feedback, audit findings, and recurring quality issues.
• Participate in cross‑functional improvement teams to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Support root cause analysis and problem‑solving activities using appropriate quality tools and methodologies.
• Track improvement initiatives, measure results, and report effectiveness to management.
• Assist in establishing and monitoring quality objectives and performance targets.
• Identify opportunities to improve quality processes, reduce defects, minimize rework, and improve overall operational efficiency.

Supplier Quality

• Support Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) activities, including supplier performance monitoring, quality data analysis, and supplier improvement initiatives.
• Analyze supplier quality data, including nonconformances, defects, delivery performance, corrective actions, and recurring issues.
• Assist with supplier evaluations and risk assessments based on quality performance and historical data.
• Participate in supplier audits and assessments to evaluate compliance with applicable quality requirements.
• Support the preparation, issuance, and follow‑up of supplier corrective action requests (SCARs).
• Monitor supplier corrective actions and assist in verifying the effectiveness of implemented actions.
• Work with Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, and Quality personnel to address supplier‑related quality issues.
• Identify supplier trends and provide recommendations for improvement or risk mitigation.

Audits & Compliance

• Support internal, customer, and third‑party quality audits as required.
• Participate in supplier audits and assist with audit planning, preparation, execution, and follow‑up.
• Compile and analyze audit findings to identify systemic issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with tracking corrective actions resulting from internal, external, and supplier audits.
• Maintain awareness of applicable customer, contractual, regulatory, and quality management system requirements.
• Support the Quality Department in maintaining compliance with applicable standards and company procedures.

General Quality Responsibilities

• Develop a working knowledge of Rhoads Industries’ quality requirements, processes, procedures, and customer requirements.
• Review quality documentation, reports, and records for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare quality reports, presentations, and management summaries as required.
• Work collaboratively with Quality, Operations, Program, Contract, Procurement and other departments to resolve quality issues.
• Conduct investigations objectively and professionally and provide data‑driven recommendations.
• Support corrective and preventive action activities as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality of company, customer, supplier, and employee information.
• Perform other quality‑related duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Quality.

Your Background

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Data Analytics, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Strong understanding of quality control methodologies, tools, and techniques and engineering principles
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high‑quality standards.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Personnel Security Clearance.
• Ability to interpret customer requirements and provide guidance and direction to the organization.
• Excellent written communication – concise and accurate written documentation is essential.
• Ability to communicate requirements in an industrial environment and give effective direction using written and verbal skills where appropriate.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical ability leading to exemplary execution.
• Must be able to work independently and irregular hours, as required.
• Ability to solve complex challenges independently in compliance with written and verbal guidance.

• Fully competent in using various software tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint.

The Work Environment at Rhoads

• The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.
• Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, and driving in an automobile
• May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting and possibly at increased heights climbing and descending ladders and ship stairways.
