Summary

The primary responsibility of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is to provide care for residents under the direction of nursing and medical staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Obtain and record patients' vital signs and weight.
2. Administer and document medications following physicians' orders, including oral, topical, and suppository medications, as well as eye and ear drops.
3. Participate in all in-service programs to expand abilities. Maintain compliance with personnel policies, community policies, and regulations including HIPAA. Understand and implement fire safety and disaster preparedness plans.
4. Perform treatments not requiring a licensed nurse, such as hot/cold applications, vital signs, and weights, using the procedure manual to verify techniques and practicing standard precautions.
5. Observe, record, and report effects from medications.
6. Take vital signs as needed before administering certain medications.
7. Provide direct resident care and function as a CNA when not administering medications.
8. Develop and maintain professional relationships with residents, visitors, and co-workers.
9. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements include:

• QMA Certificate in good standing with the Department of Health and a current CNA Certificate.
• One year of experience in a long-term care setting is desired.

Physical Demands

The physical demands include sitting, standing, bending, walking regularly, and lifting/moving up to 100 pounds. Visual and auditory abilities must be sufficient for communication. The work environment usually has moderate noise levels.
