Summary

The primary responsibility of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is to provide care for the residents under the direction of the nursing and medical staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Obtains and records patient's vital signs and weight.
2. Administers and documents medications given by following specifically written physicians orders, including oral, topical, and suppository medications, as well as eye and ear drops.
3. Participates in all in-service programs to expand and develop abilities. Maintains compliance to all policies and regulations, including HIPAA privacy laws. Understands and implements safety and emergency procedures.
4. Performs treatments not requiring licensed nurse (hot/cold applications, vital signs, weights, etc.) using correct techniques and standard precautions.
5. Observes, records, and reports medication effects and other observations.
6. Takes vital signs as needed prior to medication administration.
7. Provides direct resident care and functions as a CNA when not administering medications.
8. Maintains professional relationships with residents, visitors, and co-workers.
9. Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Must have a QMA Certificate in good standing and a current CNA Certificate. One year of experience in long-term care is preferred.

Physical Demands

Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Visual and auditory abilities sufficient for communication. Moderate noise level.
