Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is to provide care for the residents under the direction of the nursing and medical staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Obtains and records patient's vital signs and weight.
  2. Administers and documents medications given by following specifically written physicians orders, including oral, topical, and suppository medications, as well as eye and ear drops.
  3. Participates in all in-service programs to expand and develop abilities. Maintains compliance to all personnel policies, community policies and procedures, and Federal and State regulations, including HIPAA laws. Understands and implements fire safety and disaster preparedness plans.
  4. Performs treatments not requiring a licensed nurse (hot/cold applications, vital signs, weights, etc.) using procedure manuals and standard precautions.
  5. Observes, records, and reports medication effects.
  6. Takes vital signs as needed prior to medication administration.
  7. Provides direct resident care and functions as a CNA when not administering medications.
  8. Develops and maintains professional relationships with residents, visitors, and co-workers.
  9. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • QMA Certificate in good standing and current CNA Certificate.
  • One year experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
Physical Demands:
  • Sit, stand, bend, and walk regularly; lift/move up to 100 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory ability for communication.
  • Moderate noise level.
