Job summary

Weeks Marine seeks an assistant to the Watch Engineer aboard a vessel operating in Port Fourchon, LA. You will assist in operating, maintaining and repairing dredging and engine equipment.

This Intermediate level role requires rounds, reporting, and hands-on tasks, with a rotation schedule and the ability to live aboard during rotations. Strong safety and tool-use skills preferred.

Qualifications

• Able to follow written and oral instructions and communicate with crew.
• Proficient with hand and power tools for maintenance tasks.
• Capable of working in a rotational schedule and living aboard during rotations.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Routinely make rounds logging equipment condition.
• Report unusual machinery operations to the engineer.
• Maintain cleanliness of engine spaces and equipment.
• Ensure oil pressure and temperature stay within safe ranges.
• Participate in repairs and maintenance during idle periods.
• Assist with greasing machinery and taking soundings for tanks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Assists the Watch Engineer in operating, maintaining and repairing the vessel engineering and dredging equipment.

Experience Level

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Routinely makes rounds while logging the condition of the equipment.
• Report any unusual machinery operations to the engineer.
• Maintain the cleanliness of engine spaces and equipment.
• Ensure oil pressure and temperature levels are kept at their proper state.
• Participate in all repairs and maintenance projects during idle periods.
• Perform duties as directed by the Watch Engineer such as, but not limited to, grease machinery and take soundings for storage tanks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to work a rotational work schedule.
• Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation.
• Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements

• USCG Medical Certifical (STCW)
• TWIC – Transportation Worker Identification Credential
• Driver's License
• Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
• Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
• Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Performs other duties as required.
