Job summary

Traditionsatnorthwillow is seeking a Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) to safely prepare and administer prescribed medications to residents. The role includes documenting administration, checking physician orders, and maintaining medication storage and security per HIPAA guidelines.

The position requires completion of state-approved medication administration training, annual med-evaluation with a Registered Pharmacist Consultant, and possession of a current state QMA certificate.

Qualifications

  • Must complete annual medication evaluation with a Registered Pharmacy Consultant.
  • Current QMA Certificate for the current state is required.
  • Successful completion of a state approved training program in medication administration.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, administer and document prescribed medications (oral, eye, nasal, ear, topical) to residents as directed.
  • Administer PRN drugs as allowed by a licensed nurse.
  • Check orders against medication forms and ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain drug storage cleanliness and secure medication cart when unattended.
  • Record vital signs and document observations in medical records.
  • Answer call lights and alarms promptly and report needs to charge nurse.
  • Order medications from the pharmacy per physician orders.

Job description

  • Prepares and administers safely and documents regularly prescribed oral, eye, nasal, and ear medications to residents. Prepares and administers topical medications to intact skin.
  • Administers as allowed, PRN drugs when authorized by a licensed nurse.
  • Uses the Physician’s Desk Reference or other appropriate drug reference if ever unsure or unclear as to drug being administered.
  • Checks physician’s orders against medication forms.
  • Maintains cleanliness and proper storage of all drugs and maintains a clean working environment.
  • Keeps medication cart locked while unattended.
  • Care for and position all patient tubing and bags as instructed.
  • Counts all drugs on Individual Control Drug Records with on-coming charge person at shift change.
  • Makes rounds and reports needs and conditions to the charge nurse as applicable.
  • Administers vital signs and documents properly.
  • Keeps medical records current by charting pertinent resident conditions timely and routine charting as scheduled, with co-signature by licensed nurse.
  • Answer call lights, bed/chair sensors, pull-pin alarms, and security care bracelet alarms promptly and courteously.
  • Order medications from pharmacy per physician order.
  • Complies with the facility’s privacy practices and procedures related to resident and employee records and all state/federal privacy laws as outlined by HIPAA.
QMA Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Successful completion of a state approved training program in medication administration.
  • Must complete annual medication evaluation with Registered Pharmacy Consultant.
