Job summary

Granite Construction Incorporated is seeking a quality control technician to sample, test, and inspect construction materials in lab or field settings. You will ensure compliance with supplier and owner specifications and support inspection teams in daily QA activities.

Responsibilities include testing at production stages, interpreting drawings, collecting samples, and maintaining QC logs. A valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs are expected; OSHA safety policies apply.

• 4+ years of related experience required.
• Basic computer skills; intermediate Excel.

Job description

General Summary

This position is responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting construction materials or elements in a laboratory or field setting to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products
• Obtains and maintains certifications as required to perform testing.
• Maintains thorough understanding of specifications, testing and reporting requirements.
• Communicates and schedules QC activities with crew and inspection personnel.
• Interprets specifications and discusses/argues with crew and inspection staff.
• Makes decisions based on knowledge of specifications and testing requirements.
• Interprets engineering drawings to ensure work is performed in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Collects material samples, sends samples to lab, interprets test results and distributes information to crews and inspection staff.
• Maintains all QC log books and reports in accordance with specifications.
• Follows all OSHA and Company safety policies and procedures, including attendance at safety meetings.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Education

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience

Work Experience

• 4+ years of related experience required

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Basic computer skills, intermediate proficiency in Excel

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk and hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
