Job summary

Canfor in Fulton, Alabama is hiring a Quality Control Technician to safeguard our lumber standards. You will inspect products, run tests for defects and moisture, and maintain detailed records to ensure compliance with our specs.

This full-time role operates on a two-week rotation of days and nights (Sunday–Thursday nights; Monday–Thursday days). A high school diploma is required; prior QC experience, preferably in a sawmill, is a plus. Canfor offers opportunities for advancement.

This role is a full-time permanent position working a 2 week rotation of days and nights. Sunday - Thursday nights and Monday-Thursday on days.

What you will do as a Quality Control Technician:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of lumber and wood products to ensure they meet our quality standards.
  • Perform various tests on products to check for defects, moisture content, and other quality indicators.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and any quality issues detected.
  • Ensure all products comply with industry standards and company specifications.
  • Identify and report any quality issues and work with production staff to implement corrective actions.
  • Recommend and assist in implementing process improvements to enhance product quality.
  • Work closely with production staff, supervisors, and other team members to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
Experience and skills that will help you stand out:
  • Previous experience in quality control, preferably in a sawmill or wood products industry.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or certification in quality control is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for identifying defects and quality issues.
  • Understanding of wood products, grading standards, and quality control processes.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
