Job summary

Canfor is seeking a Millwright for our Sawmill in Bucks, AL. This permanent, full-time role on the 2nd shift involves a rotational schedule that may include weekends.

You will maintain pumps, conveyors, compressors, mechanical systems, rollers and hydraulic/pneumatic components to keep the mill running at peak efficiency. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, clear communication, and experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • 2nd shift, permanent full-time with a rotational schedule that may include weekend work.
  • Industrial manufacturing experience preferred; lumber/mill environment a plus.
  • Basic electrical knowledge for troubleshooting and repair of machinery components.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems on heavy manufacturing machinery.
  • Experience using a CMMS to schedule and document maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain mill machinery including pumps, conveyors, compressors, mechanical systems, rollers & chains, bearings, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Perform preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance to keep equipment up and running.
  • Troubleshoot issues to boost equipment reliability and maximize production uptime.
  • Identify parts and resources needed for timely repairs.
  • Support a safe work environment and adhere to safety protocols.

This is a permanent, full-time position on our 2nd shift, featuring a rotational schedule that may include weekend work.

What you will do as a Millwright:

  • Working with a high-performance team dedicated to maintaining all mill machinery including pumps, conveyors, compressors, mechanical systems, rollers & chains, bearings, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems involved in the manufacturing process.
  • Keeping our systems running smoothly by performing preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance. This includes inspecting machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Applying your knowledge, skills, and experience to troubleshoot issues, boost equipment reliability and implement safe, reliable fixes maximizing production uptime.
  • Having great attention to detail to identify and request relevant parts to complete repairs in a timely manner.
  • Accountability for assisting in a safe work environment.

Experience and skills that will help you stand out:

  • Superior troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing and/or industrial environment would be considered a plus. Knowledge of the lumber manufacturing process would be an asset.
  • Basic electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and repair machinery components.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems on heavy manufacturing machinery.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) effectively to schedule and document maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, collaborating with other maintenance professionals, operations, production staff, and supervisors.
  • A high degree of urgency.
