Job summary

Hanwha Philly Shipyard is seeking a Quality Inspector to perform inspections, including NDE, and witness tests per procedures. The role requires reading blueprints, coordinating with multiple departments, and finalizing remedies with Class Society representatives.

A HS diploma and experience in welding/quality control are preferred, with AWS CWI or ASNT certifications a plus. The position is on-site and safety-sensitive, with a focus on ensuring compliance with shipyard standards and ABS/DNV

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • AWS CWI Certification or equivalent preferred.
  • ASNT Certification preferred for NDE testing.
  • Knowledge of ABS and DNV rules is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed and reports are prepared.
  • Perform inspections (including NDE) and witness tests per procedures.
  • Coordinate QC work with other departments (start-up, engineering, outfitting).
  • Finalize with class on remedies for issues.
  • Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy and functionality.
  • Perform incoming inspections with material control staff.
  • Other related duties as required.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.
  • Perform inspections (may include NDE) and witness tests as required by Hanwha Philly Shipyard procedures and specifications.
  • Prepare reports and quality records in compliance with Hanwha Philly Shipyard procedures.
  • Coordinate areas of QC work with other departments as required, i.e. start-up, engineering, outfitting, etc.
  • Finalize with class on remedies to fix any issues.
  • Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy and working functionality per Hanwha Philly Shipyard requirements.
  • Perform incoming inspections on material for work in conjunction with material control staff as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education And Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ related experience in discipline or 5 years’ professional welding experience
  • AWS CWI Certification or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding a plus
  • Knowledge of ABS and DNV rules a plus
  • Knowledge of NDE Testing processes (ASNT Certification preferred)
  • Knowledge of testing/inspection equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints a must
  • Ability to communicate with Production team, Owner, & Class Society representatives
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft a plus (i.e. Excel, Word, etc.)
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include confined spaces, working from heights, noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
