Job summary

Puratos in Compton, CA seeks a Quality Baking Technician to ensure product quality through QC procedures on raw materials, semi-finished goods, and finished products. The role includes verifying food safety SOPs, root-cause analysis, and CAPA implementation.

The position operates on an overnight shift (2am–10:30am, Monday–Friday) in a bake lab, performing bake tests, maintaining equipment, recording results, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of related work experience in a quality/bakery setting.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Quality Control Technology, Microbiology or Food Science.
• Proficient in MS Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint; SAP required.
• Adherence to Puratos dress code and PPE policies.
• Excellent written & verbal skills.
• SQF, GMP, and SOP training strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform finished product testing in a bakery setting.
• Maintain bake lab; clean and organize equipment and counters.
• Record test results in the required database or spreadsheet.
• Monitor incoming raw materials and labels for adherence to quality policies.
• Perform plant and line checks; apply hold tags and update SAP.
• Carry out root cause analysis and support CAPA activities.
• Daily verification/calisbration of instrumentation; practice lab testing.

The Quality Baking Technician is responsible for ensuring that all products meet established quality standards through the execution of quality control procedures on raw materials, semi-finished goods, and finished products. This role also includes verifying food safety and quality SOPs, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.

Shift Schedule: Overnight: 2am - 10:30am; Monday-Friday

Primary Responsibilities

• Finished Product Testing in a bakery setting
• Daily maintenance and cleaning of the bake lab (counters, instrumentation, supplies)
• Perform bake test according to recipe specifications and evaluate product performance
• Record all test results, finished product spreadsheet or any other database as required for analytical, bake testing
• Maintain retain rotation and logs
• Monitor receipt of incoming raw materials, product labels and manufacturing products to assure adherence to quality policies and procedures
• perform plant and Line checks
• Apply hold tags to all permanent holds, maintain hold file and update SAP to reflect status of all held product at any given time
• Keep the turnaround time according to the specifications
• Continuous improvement initiatives
• Participate in root cause analysis and follow CAPA list: Provide technical guidance for diagnostic working with R&D, tools for root cause
• Good Lab Practices
• Daily documented verification/calisbration of all instrumentation
• Practice technical analysis such as pH and other applicable testing

Requirements

• At least 2+ years or related work experience in similar setting
• Bachelor's degree required in a relevant field (e.g., Quality Control Technology, Microbiology, Food Science) is preferred; may consider other education with related experience
• Proficient in MS Office applications; Excel, Word, PowerPoint; SAP required
• Adherence to Puratos dress code and PPE policies
• Excellent written & verbal skills
• Completion of SQF, GMP, and SOP training strongly preferred
• Physical Demands: Occasional sitting, climbing/balancing, stooping/twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, push/pull, reaching, and gripping; frequent standing, walking; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs; frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs
• Environmental Conditions: occasional working at heights, exposure to hazards, working with machinery, frequently working with uneven ground, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, exposure to dust/fumes

Compensation:

• Compensation for this role is hourly and will be based on your experience, skills, and location, with a typical range between $25.62/HR and $32.02/HR.
