Job summary

SDM Composites is seeking a Quality Inspector to oversee inspections throughout manufacturing and final checks before shipment. The role requires reading blueprints, interpreting ANSI Y14.5M, and applying documentation to production processes.

You will work closely with engineering to ensure conformance of precision 3- and 5-axis parts, sheet metal components, and assemblies. Candidates should have experience with various inspection tools and participate in AS9102 FAI activities, including

Qualifications

• Read blueprints and interpret features per ANSI Y14.5M guidelines.
• Translate dimensions from blueprints using shop math.
• Follow Instructions and procedures as defined for inspections.
• Inspect using basic tools and document results per spec.
• Perform First Article Detail and AS9102 compliance.
• Execute Net-Inspect AS9102 FAI’s and related duties.

Responsibilities

• Follow Instructions and procedures.
• Read blueprints and correctly interpret its features following dimensioning and tolerance ANSI Y14.5M guidelines.
• Translate dimensions from blueprints using shop math.
• Read correctly and interpret Standard and specifications.
• Uses basic inspection equipment (Micrometer, caliper, Test indicator, surface plate, etc.) and a surface roughness tester (profilometer).
• Works with common geometric features used in blueprints and provide application knowledge of how to inspect for each (Roughness concentricity, flatness runout, perpendicularity, and parallelism).
• Read and correctly interpret rejection documentation (rejection tags, purge and hold form etc.)
• Perform a First Article Detail and Assembly accordance with form AS9102.
• Process Net-Inspect AS9102 FAI’s.
• Perform Receiving Inspection, Warehouse Releases, Grading, Peel Testing, OP, Shipping Inspection & Final Inspection duties.
• Meets productivity goals related to your department workload.
• Additional Duties, as assigned.

Job description

Quality Inspector is responsible for performing inspections of parts throughout the manufacturing process and perform the final inspection of parts prior to shipment to the customer. This role is required to analyze specifications including written statements of work, purchase orders, part/assembly models, drawings, parts lists, bills of material, layouts, etc. and verify all required documentation has been properly interpreted and applied to the part production process. This role requires proven experience using a variety of inspection methods to determine part conformity for precision machined 3 & 5 axis components, sheet metal parts and assemblies. Experienced working with Spirit Aerospace, Boeing Defense, Lockheed, Northrop, Collins Aerospace, and other major aerospace suppliers. This role works closely with the Lamsco production and engineering teams.
