Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) seeks a Python Software Engineer to design and develop robust data management and AI-enabled simulation software. You will work across projects from prototypes to production, collaborating with scientists and engineers to translate requirements into scalable, well-architected software.

The role sits in the GS-CAD within the Computing Directorate, offering a hybrid schedule with some in-person and remote work flexibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
• Strong Python experience with scientific computing libraries (NumPy, SciPy, pandas).
• Proven software engineering practices: clean code, testing, documentation, code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Guide the completion of projects and contribute to design, development, test, maintenance, and deployment of scientific computation libraries.
• Support multiple deployment pathways: desktop, containerized, HPC/cluster environments.
• Contribute to data visualization and analysis tools for scientists to interpret results.
• Integrate libraries with other platforms, applications, and data pipelines.
• Troubleshoot issues across software, computational methods, and domains.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and other developers to gather requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
• Contribute to software QA including test strategies and code quality standards.
• Transform conceptual models into well-structured, extensible software.
