Job summary

Coherent Solutions, Inc. is seeking a senior Python backend engineer to own design, development and deployment of scalable services in a remote-friendly setup. You will work with Django/FastAPI, asyncio and Kafka to deliver high-availability systems for millions of users.

You will collaborate across product, frontend and DevOps teams, implement robust testing, and mentor junior engineers on best practices in a fast-paced, remote environment.

Qualifications

• 4 years of Python backend development experience.
• Solid experience with Django or FastAPI and asynchronous programming (asyncio).
• Production experience with Apache Kafka.
• Strong distributed systems / microservices background.
• Experience deploying containerized apps with Docker.
• Familiarity with cloud providers, preferably AWS.
• Proficient in SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Experience with CI/CD and test automation.
• Knowledge of monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
• English level: B2 or higher.

Project Description

The project is a social sports gaming platform that offers free-to-play alternatives to traditional real-money sports betting. The platform focuses on creating a fun, engaging, and community-driven sports gaming experience for users with different levels of interest in sports.

What You'll Do

• Take full ownership of backend services from design and development through deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement;
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance distributed backend services using Python and Django;
• Architect distributed systems to support millions of users with low latency and high availability;
• Own critical backend infrastructure components, including APIs, data pipelines, message brokers such as Kafka, and caching;
• Optimize systems for throughput, latency, fault tolerance, and resilience under heavy load;
• Implement robust testing strategies, including unit, integration, and performance tests;
• Drive continuous improvement of development processes and system observability, including monitoring and logging;
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps teams to ship reliable features on aggressive timelines;
• Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, architectural discussions, and knowledge sharing;

Job Requirements

• 4 years of experience in Python backend development;
• Solid experience with Django/FastApi and asynchronous programming using asyncio;
• Production experience with Apache Kafka;
• Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices, or similar architecture;
• Experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Docker;
• Familiarity with any cloud provider, preferably AWS;
• Proficiency with SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL;
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation;
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent;
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience with code reviews;
• Comfortable working in Agile teams;
• English level: B2 or higher;

• Experience with Kubernetes;
• Experience working with systems supporting 1M+ users;
• Experience with NoSQL databases;
• Exposure to event sourcing or CQRS patterns;
• Familiarity with frontend technologies such as React;
