Job summary

Coherent Solutions is seeking a senior Python backend engineer for a fully remote role on a social sports gaming platform. You will own backend services from design through deployment, building scalable distributed systems to support millions of users with low latency and high availability.

Key responsibilities include API and data-pipeline ownership, Kafka messaging, Dockerized deployments, and collaboration with product, frontend, and DevOps teams.

Qualifications

• 4 years of Python backend development.
• Solid experience with Django/FastAPI and asyncio.
• Production experience with Apache Kafka.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices, or similar architecture.
• Experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Docker.
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud providers.
• Proficiency with SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation.
• Knowledge of monitoring/logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience with code reviews.
• Comfortable working in Agile teams.
• English level: B2 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of backend services from design and development through deployment and maintenance.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and Django.
• Architect distributed systems to support millions of users with low latency and high availability.
• Own APIs, data pipelines, message brokers like Kafka, and caching infrastructure.
• Optimize system throughput, latency, fault tolerance and resilience under heavy load.
• Implement robust testing strategies: unit, integration and performance tests.
• Drive observability and monitoring improvements across services.
• Collaborate with product, frontend and DevOps to ship reliable features on timelines.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions.
