Position Overview

Client is seeking an experienced Python Developer with strong Microsoft Azure expertise to design, develop, enhance, and support backend services and REST APIs for the EDGE V4 Calculation Engine.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of professional Python development experience, strong expertise in API development and database technologies, and hands-on experience deploying and supporting applications in Microsoft Azure environments.

The successful candidate will translate complex building science formulas, business rules, and calculation models into reliable, scalable, maintainable, and testable software components. This role requires strong analytical skills, a commitment to software quality, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile delivery environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of professional Python development experience delivering secure, scalable, production-quality backend applications or calculation services.
• Strong proficiency in modern Python, object-oriented programming, modular architecture, reusable libraries, type validation, dependency management, and coding standards such as PEP 8.
• Hands-on experience developing REST APIs using FastAPI or an equivalent framework, including request validation, API versioning, authentication, structured error handling, and OpenAPI documentation.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, including application hosting, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Experience with Azure App Service or approved container platforms, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, secrets management, and application monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL, including data modeling, queries, functions, indexing, transaction management, and performance optimization.
• Practical experience with Pydantic, PyTest, importlib, caching, configuration management, and reusable Python utilities and packages.
• Proven ability to translate complex formulas, business rules, dependency graphs, or scientific models into deterministic, traceable, and testable software components.
• Experience designing and implementing automated unit, integration, regression, and API tests, including disciplined defect analysis and test documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI-assisted development tools, Generative AI, intelligent agents, and automation to improve software engineering productivity and quality.
• Strong understanding of secure software development, data protection, auditability, resilience, performance optimization, and production support practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
• Experience working in Agile development environments and collaborating with multicultural teams across different time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of building science, energy and water efficiency, construction materials, embodied carbon, sustainability standards, or cost calculations.
• Experience developing calculation engines, scientific applications, rules-based systems, or complex business logic platforms.
• Familiarity with version-controlled datasets, calculation traceability, explainable results, and scenario-based simulation.
• Experience supporting enterprise applications with high availability, scalability, and operational reliability requirements.
