We are seeking a Purchasing Specialist to support sourcing, procurement, inventory management, and international logistics activities within a specialty products distribution environment. This role is responsible for identifying and managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and purchasing agreements, coordinating import activities, and ensuring a reliable flow of materials to support business operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience in purchasing, supply chain management, or procurement, along with strong supplier management, negotiation, and logistics coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers based on quality, pricing, reliability, capacity, and service levels.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers and vendors.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and purchasing agreements to support business objectives.
- Create, manage, and monitor purchase orders to ensure timely procurement of materials and services.
- Track supplier performance, including cost, quality, delivery, and compliance with contractual agreements.
- Manage inventory levels by partnering with internal departments to align purchasing activities with demand forecasts and business requirements.
- Coordinate end-to-end import activities, including international shipment tracking, customs documentation, customs clearance, and inland transportation arrangements.
- Communicate shipment status, Estimated Time of Departure (ETD), and Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) updates to key stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier information, purchasing history, and order tracking documentation.
- Monitor market conditions and supplier pricing trends to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Resolve purchasing, supplier, and logistics issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Support inventory control activities, including periodic physical inventory counts and reconciliation.
- Generate purchase orders for operational supplies, equipment, and facility-related purchases as needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, sales, customer service, and finance teams to support business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Purchasing, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or logistics roles.
- Experience within specialty chemicals, ingredients, manufacturing, distribution, consumer products, or related industries is preferred.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of inventory management, purchasing processes, international logistics, and import/customs procedures.
- Ability to analyze supplier performance, market trends, and procurement data to support decision-making.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Experience with ERP systems is preferred.
- Ability to travel occasionally for supplier meetings, industry events, or business needs.
- Ability to work in an on-site, full-time work environment.
