Job summary

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas seeks a Purchasing Manager to lead vendor sourcing, evaluation, and contract management in support of archdiocesan operations.

This full-time, onsite role reports to the CFO and focuses on developing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relations, and ensuring procurement aligns with our mission and compliance standards.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business, supply chain management, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, and/or vendor management.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is helpful and preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted sourcing advisor to Archdiocesan entities by providing early consultation on projects requiring external expertise or services.
  • Develop sourcing strategies reflecting cross-departmental goals, timelines, and mission alignment through market research and procurement processes.
  • Facilitate and support evaluation teams through vendor selection with guidance on due diligence and scoring criteria.
  • Partner with entities to negotiate and manage contracts that align goals and ensure compliance.
  • Support vendor onboarding and selection by facilitating due diligence and clear communication of roles and deliverables.
  • Ensure sourcing and vendor management practices align with compliance and audit requirements.
  • Enhance procurement practices through process improvement, data analysis, and vendor performance reviews.

Job description

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is the Catholic Church in Northeast Kansas: Growing as Disciples of Jesus; Making Disciples for Jesus. We are seeking to hire a Purchasing Manager. Reporting to the CFO, the Purchasing Manager serves as the central point of contact for vendor evaluation, selection, and onboarding activities to ensure vendor partnerships reflect archdiocesan values and business needs. This role provides expertise in sourcing strategies, vendor relationships, and procurement processes that strengthen operational capacity and cross-functional alignment. The position is full-time based on 40 hours per week, and benefits eligible with work predominately onsite in the Chancery office.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted sourcing advisor to Archdiocesan entities by providing early consultation on projects requiring external expertise or services, assisting in the development of scopes of work, guiding procurement strategies and vendor selection supporting organizational goals.
  • Develop sourcing strategies reflecting cross-departmental goals, timelines, and mission alignment by conducting market research, engaging vendor networks, leading competitive procurement processes (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs) and assisting entities in evaluating vendor proposals based on cost, quality, experience and organizational fit.
  • Facilitate and support evaluation teams through the vendor selection process by providing guidance on due diligence, evaluation criteria, scoring practices, and documentation to promote informed and responsible decision-making.
  • Partner with entities to negotiate and manage contracts that reflect shared goals, reduce administrative burden, and ensure cross-functional alignment on deliverables, compliance requirements, and communication protocols.
  • Partner with entities to support vendor onboarding and selection by facilitating due diligence and evaluation processes, providing guidance on evaluation criteria and responsible decision-making, and ensuring clear communication, documentation, and expectations regarding roles, responsibilities, and deliverables.
  • Ensure sourcing and vendor management practices align with compliance, and audit requirements by supporting entities in evaluating vendor risks, making informed decisions, and developing appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Enhance sourcing and procurement practices through process improvement, resources, training, data analysis, vendor performance reviews, and strategic initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen partnerships, and achieve cost savings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with legal/contractual documents and processes and negotiation and influencing techniques.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills with the ability to be objective to drive successful business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success building collaborative, trust-based relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate cross-functional conversations and guide teams through complex sourcing decisions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with procurement and contract management technology.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, and negotiation and problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple priorities
