Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc. in Abbeville, AL, is seeking a Purchasing Intern for the 2027 Summer Internship Program.

This paid internship offers hands-on exposure to the lumber industry, including purchasing workflows, vendor coordination, and real-world projects that build professional skills. You will learn item code logic, study market reports, manage orders and documents, and work with cross-functional teams to improve processes.

Qualifications

• Sophomore status and pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field with GPA 2.5+.
• Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Microsoft Teams and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Learn item code logic and product nomenclature and use these skills in computer systems.
• Familiarize with market reports and zone pricing to gain pricing awareness.
• Maintain timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and documents.
• Manage vendor performance to ensure timely orders per terms.
• Respond to inquiries from other departments regarding invoicing, orders, and quotes.
• Identify areas of wasted time and propose improvements.

Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc., makers of YellaWood brand pressure-treated pine, is seeking a Purchasing Intern for the 2027 Summer Internship Program. This program is an opportunity to experience the lumber industry and workforce like never before. Responsibilities may include:

• Learn Great Southern Wood Preserving item code logic and product nomenclature and use these skills to navigate various computer system applications.
• Familiarize yourself with the Random Lengths Mid-Week and Weekly Market Report and ascertain the importance of zone pricing, its meaning, and using zone spreads as an advantage.
• Maintain timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to ensure accurate retention of records.
• Manage vendor performance of former purchases to ensure orders are ready on time in accordance with negotiated or contract terms.
• Respond to inquiries from other departments relating to time-sensitive issues relating to rectifying incorrect invoicing, order loading/shipping, receiving difficulties, and quotes/market information.
• Identify areas of wasted time and redundancies that could be avoided or improved and offer solutions where applicable.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least a Sophomore and actively seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.
• Must have experience with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook.
