An established construction contractor specializing in water, wastewater, and municipal infrastructure is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to manage procurement activities across a portfolio of technically complex projects.

This role is responsible for sourcing materials and equipment, negotiating commercial terms, issuing purchase orders, coordinating deliveries, and ensuring project teams have what they need to keep work moving. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, vendors, suppliers, and accounting from preconstruction through project completion.

This is a strong opportunity for a construction procurement professional who understands both the commercial and operational sides of purchasing and wants to have a direct impact on project performance.

  • Coordinate procurement needs with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams
  • Track long-lead items and proactively address manufacturing or delivery risks
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and procurement requirements
  • Confirm purchased materials and equipment meet project and municipal requirements
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and identify new supplier partnerships
  • Monitor material pricing and identify cost-saving or value-engineering opportunities
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies, shipping problems, vendor disputes, and procurement-related changes
  • Maintain purchasing logs, delivery schedules, and procurement reports
  • Work with accounting to reconcile purchase orders, invoices, and receiving records
  • Support estimating teams with supplier pricing, lead times, and market feedback
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with contract requirements and internal policies

What They're Looking For

  • 5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience within construction
  • Strong understanding of purchase orders, vendor management, and construction procurement
  • Experience purchasing mechanical, electrical, piping, or process equipment is preferred
  • Water/wastewater, municipal infrastructure, industrial, heavy civil, or process construction experience is highly valued
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, submittals, and equipment requirements
  • Experience negotiating supplier agreements, commercial terms, and delivery commitments
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, vendors, and deadlines simultaneously
  • Experience with construction accounting, ERP, or project management software is preferred

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Competitive salary of $120,000 to $140,000
  • High-impact role supporting critical infrastructure projects throughout New England
  • Opportunity to manage procurement of technically complex equipment and materials
  • Direct collaboration with project leadership, field operations, estimating, and accounting
  • Stable organization with a strong regional project pipeline
  • Comprehensive health, dental, life insurance, paid time off, retirement support, and disability coverage
  • Long-term opportunity to grow within procurement, operations, or preconstruction
