Overview
The Purchasing Agent owns end-to-end sourcing and procurement of raw materials, consumables, and MRO supplies supporting aerospace, defense, and manufacturing operations. This role drives cost, quality, delivery, and compliance through MRP-driven planning, supplier performance management, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering, quality, and operations in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Source and procure raw materials (steel, aluminum, plastics, rubber), consumables, and MRO supplies for production.
- Manage suppliers end-to-end: onboarding, qualification, performance tracking (KPIs), and corrective actions.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to deliver cost savings while meeting aerospace/defense compliance and traceability standards.
- Drive supplier performance and recovery: improve lead times, expedite critical orders, and resolve shortages.
- Leverage ERP/MRP systems to analyze demand, planned orders, and inventory—acting on system outputs, not just processing PO's.
- Convert MRP signals into purchase orders, balancing inventory levels with production and program schedules.
- Issue and manage RFQs and POs, ensuring competitive sourcing and full documentation compliance.
- Partner with Engineering and Quality to align on specifications, drawings, and supplier capabilities.
- Resolve supplier quality issues (non-conformances) through root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA).
- Monitor open orders and inventory, proactively mitigating supply risk and supporting on-time production.
- Reconcile invoices and resolve discrepancies with suppliers.
- Maintain accurate supplier and procurement data, including pricing, performance, and compliance records.
Qualifications
- 5 years of purchasing experience in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing environments.
- Proven experience in supplier management, KPI tracking, negotiations, and lead time recovery.
- Strong ERP/MRP expertise, with the ability to interpret and act on system-driven demand.
- Familiarity with AS9100/ISO and traceability requirements preferred.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
On-site in a manufacturing environment.
