The purchasing agent is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, and spare parts needed to support company-wide daily operation, maintenance and courier activities. This individual serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for all purchasing and warehouse related software and processes and is also responsible for maintaining overall warehouse inventory levels and cleanliness.
Work environment and scheduling
This is a regular full-time position that works 100% onsite at both Platte River’s headquarters in Fort Collins and at Rawhide Energy Station north of Wellington throughout the workweek (Mondays and Wednesdays at Rawhide, Tuesdays and Thursdays at headquarters).
Purchasing needs at Rawhide Energy Station may arise outside of normal business hours due to Rawhide’s 24/7 operations; this individual must be able to respond within a reasonable timeframe when needed and is responsible for their own transportation to/from work.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization.
- Processes requisitions, purchases materials, follows up with vendors and requestors, and resolves issues that may arise during the procurement process including researching past due open purchase orders.
- Locates vendors for materials, equipment, supplies, or services and works with them to determine product availability, terms of sales, and obtain quotes as needed.
- When needed, assists the warehouse specialist with warehouse activities which includes issues/receipts, shipping out materials, inventory cycle counts, lifting heavy materials and operating a forklift.
- Maintains carrier relationships and arranges transportation for ordered materials, ensures timely processing of outgoing shipments.
- Develops strategic alliances with vendors, maintains carrier relationships, and monitors incoming deliveries.
- Provides excellent customer service with internal and external partners to facilitate purchases.
- Maintains proper inventory levels of spare parts and a clean and well-organized warehouse to facilitate safe and efficient daily operation.
- Collaborates with accounts payable department to resolve issues with invoices.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in the design, implementation, and training of purchasing and warehouse related software and processes.
Other functions
- Assists in certificate of insurance process and maintaining vendor records including current W-9.
- Provides backup coverage and support for warehouse locations across the organization.
- Attends department and safety meetings and trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
- Ability to stay on task with regular to frequent interruptions.
- Skilled in task prioritization and time management.
- Working knowledge of work orders, requisitions, and purchase orders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Intermediate level computer proficiency with Office 365 and asset management software.
- Experience with purchasing negotiation (price, delivery, freight), terms and conditions, and certificates of insurance.
- Ability to read, interpret, create or edit documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to understand, learn, use, and train on Oracle ERP system as well as warehouse and purchasing processes
- Basic math abilities (add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers).
Qualified candidates
- Work experience: At least 2 to 3 years in a purchasing-specific role using an enterprise ERP system (Oracle Cloud preferred).
- Intermediate-level experience working in Office 365 suite.
- Education: High school diploma or GED or higher.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours a week, when required.
Pay
This is a non-exempt position that is paid bi-weekly; ranges listed below are annualized.
Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include specific skills, years of experience, education, and certifications.
- Full range: $73,458 to $99,086
- Hiring range: $73,458 to $86,339
