Job Overview: The Purchasing agent is responsible for the day-to-day purchasing activities, monitoring inventory levels as well as production needs for select branch locations. Order cycle and inventory reviews are key while strategically sourcing through our vendor partners based on customer orders and internal demand. This role involves working closely with branches/crossfunctional teams to achieve and support our valued customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process purchase orders with current suppliers and manage inventory by tracking deliveries, monitoring inventory levels and ensuring timely restocking.
  • Analyze data, monitor trends, and ensure compliance with financial reporting, and other data to identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure procurement activities adhere to company policies, laws, and regulations. Verify correct pricing and appropriate lead times.
  • Maintain accurate records of transactions, purchase orders, and supplier information in the ERP system. Recommend changes to reorder points, minimum and maximum inventory levels and lead times.
  • Periodically organize and coordinate successful product returns and transfers.
  • Support continuous improvement and quality objectives.

Competencies (Skills & Qualifications):

  • Financial acumen to understand and analyze financial data. Demonstrated quantitative abilities, including unit conversions and cost calculations (unit conversions, cost conversions).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills that are clear and concise to effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams, facilities and vendor partners.
  • Strong Problem solving and decision-making skills for order cycle analysis, determining lead times, track backorders, demand forecasting, and open purchase order and branch transfer management. Assess and mitigate stockouts and minimize disruptions to the customer.
  • Balance competing priorities to optimize purchasing decisions and meeting deadlines.
  • Independent decision-making to efficiently and effectively manage the procurement process and contribute to the overall success of the business. Commonly exercised by releasing orders, reviewing jobs, date management, inventory management, analyzing data, etc.
  • Able to work independently, self-motivated, sets daily goals, and manages time effectively.
  • Foster mutually beneficial relationships that are professional by building trust, providing timely communications, and managing supply chain challenges.

Education and Experience:

  • 2 Year degree and/or 2 years purchasing/buying related experience in a manufacturing/fulfillment setting.
  • Intermediate level in Microsoft Office suite (prominent use of Excel pivot tables, formulas, and VLOOKUP).
  • Epicor ERP System knowledge is preferred but not required. Having used an ERP system is beneficial.
  • Ability to type 35+ WPM

Work Environment: Work in an office environment with common noise levels, ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk, walking, and using hands and arms. In a purchasing agent position, you will be speaking often and listening actively with vendors, the team, and business colleagues that includes both in person, virtually, and on the phone. The individual will require fine motor skills, using fingers to operate small tools such as a phone and computer, or other controls specific to the position. Able to see details or objects at a close range may be necessary for tasks like reading product labels, documents, or identifying specific items.
