Job summary

The Malco Group in Minnesota is seeking a skilled operator to set up and run metal stamping presses, weld equipment, and monitor quality to meet strict specifications.

Responsibilities include tool changes, first-piece checks, and efficient troubleshooting to minimize downtime, while adhering to safety and production targets. Prior experience and basic reading of drawings are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of metal stamping, welding, manufacturing, or related industrial experience preferred.
  • Experience with press setup, feed line operation, and welding processes preferred.

Job description

  • Base Pay $21.00 - $25.00 / Hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and adjust metal stamping presses, dies, and feed line equipment to meet product specifications.
  • Perform tooling and equipment changeovers efficiently to achieve routing and setup time goals.
  • Verify first-piece quality and make necessary adjustments before production runs.
  • Troubleshoot setup issues and implement corrective actions to maintain production requirements.
  • Ensure tooling and equipment are properly aligned and operating safely.
  • Operate metal stamping presses safely and efficiently to meet production schedules.
  • Monitor part quality throughout production runs to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Inspect dies, presses, and related equipment daily.
  • Perform routine lubrication, greasing, and oiling of equipment.
  • Identify and resolve basic operational issues to minimize downtime.
  • Stop production when quality concerns arise and escape issues as necessary.
  • Set up and operate MIG, TIG, and spot welding equipment.
  • Produce welded components according to print and quality requirements.
  • Inspect weld quality and make adjustments to maintain product standards.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of metal stamping, welding, manufacturing, or related industrial experience preferred.
  • Experience with press setup, feed line operation, and welding processes preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of metal stamping operations and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to set up and operate punch presses, feed lines, and welding equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Understanding of quality inspection methods and production standards.
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and manufacturing reporting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to make machine adjustments to maintain quality and production output.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple production requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision‑making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and assist other departments as needed.
Physical Requirements:
  • Standing/walking 95+ percent of the time on a hard surface
  • Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to constantly move objects
  • Occasional lifting of 25-50 lbs. / Frequent lifting of 10-24 lbs.
  • Occasionally carry 25-50 lbs. / Frequently carry 10-24 lbs.
