Job summary

The WestRock Company Evadale mill in Evadale, TX, is seeking a Mill Technical Assistant for the Pulp Mill. The role provides technical support by monitoring, investigating, evaluating, and recommending improvements to quality, quantity, and cost in the Pulp Mill.

The mill features two digesters, diffusers, bleach plants, and a Clo2 plant. The successful candidate will review production data, manage raw materials, lead root-cause analyses, assist with budgeting, and champion safety and ISO

Qualifications

• BS degree in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science.
• 5+ years of Pulp Mill experience preferred.
• Proficient in MS Excel and analytical tools.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills.
• Experience with SAP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze production reports to identify issues impacting production.
• Manage Pulp Mill raw material program with purchasing/internal supplies.
• Lead RCFA and quality/cost improvement trials.
• Assist with annual budget, forecasts, and monthly cost reviews.
• Lead the departmental ISO compliance program.
• Promote safety and environmental compliance.
• Drive continuous process improvements in the pulp mill.
• Lead cost saving projects.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Opportunity

The Evadale mill produces high quality packaging coated paperboard and is highly profitable. The Technical Assistant for the Pulp Mill provides technical support by monitoring, investigating, evaluating, and making recommendations for improving quality, quantity, and cost in the Pulp Mill. The Evadale Mill has Two continuous digesters, atmospheric diffusers, two bleach plants and a Clo2 plant.

Reporting

The Technical Assistant Pulp Mill reports directly to the Pulp Mill Superintendent.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock

• Review and analyze production reports to identify issues impacting production.
• Manage Pulp Mill raw material program by partnering with purchasing and internal supplies group.
• Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and quality and cost improvement trials.
• Assist with the management of annual budget, providing forecasts and reviewing monthly costs.
• Lead the departmental ISO compliance program.
• Actively promote safety and environmental compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Continuous process improvements in the pulp mill area.
• Cost saving projects.

What you will need to succeed

• BS Degree in a related field such as Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science.
• 5 years or more of Pulp Mill experience preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Excel is required.
• Strong technical aptitude and analytical skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• SAP experience preferred.
• Six Sigma green belt certification preferred.
