Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of Medical Assistant or practical nursing training with practicum hours; OR MA certification; OR 1 year relevant experience.
• BLS certification required from Red Cross or AHA.
• Ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
• Proficient with CPT and ICD9 coding.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
• Knowledge of basic and specialty medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned and manages patient flow.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and document observations and reactions to treatments.
• Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and preparing for exams.
• Collect patient history including medications, allergies, and symptoms.
• Provide patient care as directed by providers and assist with procedures.
• Document in EMR and relay information to patients and families.
• Answering patient calls and messages as liaison between patient and provider.
• Handle clerical duties like filing and scheduling, and sending records.
• Collect and handle lab specimens per infection control guidelines.
