Qualifications

• Minimum of High School or GED required.
• Completion of Medical Assistant or practical nursing training program with clinical practicum hours; OR Medical Assistant certification.
• BLS certification required from ARC or AHA.
• Verified ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes.
• Intermediate computer knowledge: Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows.

Responsibilities

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including organizing patient flow.
• Escorts patients to exam rooms and observes patient responses.
• Assists patients with walking, transfers, dressing, and specimen collection.
• Collects patient history and current medications.
• Provides patient care as directed by the provider, including screenings and treatments.
• Documents interventions, phone calls, and medication details in the EMR.
• Answers patient calls and messages, liaises between patient and provider.
• Performs clerical duties such as filing and scheduling appointments.
• Collects and handles lab specimens following infection control guidelines.
• Uses electronic referrals to coordinate physician referrals to specialists.
