Job summary

UVA Health in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Respiratory Therapist specializing in Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT). This outpatient role focuses on diagnostic testing with strong autonomy, Monday–Friday, 8AM–5PM, away from bedside care.

You will perform PFTs, educate patients, manage testing schedules, and collaborate with physicians and clinic teams to support diagnostic decision-making. This is ideal for an RT seeking specialty-focused advancement in an academic medical center.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited respiratory therapy program.
• Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy required within 5 years of hire/transfer for all hires/transfers after 2019.
• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with NBRC; licensed to practice in Virginia.
• AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required; NBRC Specialty Credential within 2 years of hire; ACLS within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing and diagnostic respiratory assessments.
• Educate patients on testing procedures and ensure high-quality results.
• Independently manage patient testing schedules, workflows, and clinic responsibilities.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and specialty clinic teams.
• Rotate through outpatient locations including specialty clinics and ambulatory sites.
• Ensure testing accuracy, quality standards, and exceptional patient experiences.
• Coordinate with care teams to support diagnostic and treatment planning.
• Develop expertise in pulmonary function diagnostics with opportunities for certification.
