Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a Pulmonary Function Technician to support the Pulm Func Lab Opa-Integrated Hospital Care Institute in Cleveland. The role involves performing functional respiratory tests, patient education, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The position offers a sign-on bonus up to $7,500 for external hires, daytime shift 7:30am-4:00pm, with opportunities for professional growth in a world-class health system.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Program of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC.
  • Current Ohio Respiratory Care professional licensure (RCP).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by AHA.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily operations of assigned areas and act as a resource person for staff.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement.
  • Assist with development and implementation of Respiratory Therapy policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Act as a Respiratory Care liaison with the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Assist with orientation and training for newly hired therapists and existing staff.

As Pulmonary Function Technician, you will support a diverse patient population, with many managing various chronic respiratory disorders, critical illnesses and related symptoms. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Monitor daily operations of assigned areas and act as a resource person for staff.

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement.

  • Assist with development and implementation of Respiratory Therapy Policy/Procedures/Protocols.

  • Act as a Respiratory Care liaison by developing/maintaining communication with the multidisciplinary care team.

  • Assist with developing and providing ongoing orientation/training for newly hired therapists, existing staff, nursing and LIPs.

  • Perform blood gas puncture and analysis (where applicable).

  • Perform patient education regarding treatment and care of respiratory illness/disease to patient and family (where applicable).

  • If designated as a Technical Consultant by the blood gas Laboratory Director, meet minimum qualifications as specified by the CLIA code of federal regulations

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate of an accredited Program of Respiratory Therapy

  • Current licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the NBRC

  • Current licensure by the Ohio Respiratory Care Processional (RCP) Board

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • C/RPFT credentialing through the NBRC

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Requires normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
