Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Welder for the Department of Transportation, Westmoreland County Maintenance Organization. This hands-on welding and fabrication role supports safe transportation structures and equipment, with emphasis on metal prep, structural welding, and parts fabrication.

You will work 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday, in a non-telework position, and must meet the listed experience and training requirements. The department emphasizes public service and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience operating welding equipment, materials, and shop tools to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures.
• Completion of a three-year Vo-Tech welding program and eighteen months of welding experience.
• Completion of an approved welder apprentice program.
• A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Metal Preparation: Clean, heat, and shape metals for welding.
• Structural Welding: Weld and cut on bridges, vehicle bodies, engine parts, and equipment.
• Parts Fabrication: Build and repair plow frames, blades, spreaders, and transport gear.
• Tool Operation: Use drills, saws, presses, and compressors to support welding tasks.
• Equipment Handling: Operate forklifts, pickup trucks, bucket trucks during fabrication and welding.
• Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe workspace and follow safety rules and reporting procedures.
