Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations affecting municipal public works functions.
• Experience in budgeting, purchasing, and personnel policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of information technology applications to construction monitoring and mapping.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and performance-evaluation skills.
• Ability to manage capital projects and coordinate with engineers and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Plan and direct long-range and day-to-day public works operations including stormwater, streets, and waste management.
• Manage budgets, expenditures, and capital projects; review invoices and statements.
• Advise the City Manager and boards on public works matters; present findings as needed.
• Supervise staff through supervisors; hire, train, and evaluate staff; enforce safety and certifications.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other departments; inspect projects for progress and compliance.
• Ensure OSHA compliance; provide safety training and maintain standards.
• Prepare reports such as Powell Bill data and annual public works reports for leadership.
