Job summary

The City of Buda (TX) seeks a Line Locator to identify and mark City-owned water, wastewater, reclaimed-water, and electric facilities. You will review records, operate locating equipment, and maintain accurate locate data to support safe excavation.

You will work under supervision, participate in on-call and emergency responses, and ensure compliance with APWA color standards and Texas 811 processes. A valid Texas driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in underground utility locating, water or wastewater utility maintenance, construction, surveying, GIS fieldwork, or a closely related area.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
• Must complete city-required utility locating, Texas 811, traffic-control, and safety training within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Receives, reviews, prioritizes, and completes locate requests to support lawful excavation and prevent delays.
• Researches GIS data, as-built drawings, and records before each locate.
• Operates locating equipment to determine horizontal location and path of underground City utilities.
• Identifies and marks City facilities using APWA color standards.
• Maintains locate records with measurements, sketches, photographs, and GPS coordinates.
• Assists with emergency response and damage investigations as needed.
• Maintains safety practices, work zones, and traffic-control measures.
• Keeps tickets, logs, inventory, and equipment records up to date.
