Job summary

The City of Vernon is seeking a Public Works Superintendent to lead Facilities Maintenance, Street, and Fleet Services within the Public Works Department. This full-time role offers leadership over daily operations and strategic planning, with a strong emphasis on safety, contract administration, and budget input.

Monthly salary ranges from $11,122 to $13,518, with an immediate need to fill the vacancy. Applicants should have relevant education and several years of supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Two years of college level coursework in Public Administration, project management, construction management, or related field.
• Six years of experience, including three years supervisory, in Facilities Maintenance, Street, and/or Garage management.

Responsibilities

• Supervises staff; sets work priorities; creates schedules; provides training; conducts evaluations; enforces discipline as needed.
• Assists with budget recommendations; supports policy reviews and department goals.
• Develops RFPs, bids, and requisitions; oversees contractors and invoicing; manages contracts.
• Oversees department safety training; ensures compliance with safety procedures.
• Performs site inspections to ensure safety for employees and the public.
• Prepares reports on Public Works activities and presents findings.
• Responds to public and staff concerns in a timely, professional manner.
• Represents the City on regional committees and Joint Powers Authorities.
• Supports City-Public interaction with courtesy and confidentiality.
