Job summary

City of Lynchburg's Department of Public Works seeks motivated individuals to join the Refuse Team, offering a rewarding career in public service with pay based on assignment and qualifications.

Responsibilities include operating refuse collection trucks, enforcing ordinances, data entry on tablets, and training new hires. CDL and driving record required; NIMS IS100/IS700 training within 90 days of employment are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; relevant operation experience preferred.
• Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
• Ability to learn Refuse Compliance software using tablet/computer; Flagger Certification through VDOT may be required; National Incident Management System (NIMS) training IS100/IS700 within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual, fully and semi-automated refuse collection trucks on prescribed routes for residential and small business collection.
• Operate hydraulic mechanism for compressing and dumping refuse; assist with brush and bulky material collection.
• Enforce Solid Waste Ordinances and issue violation notices; report violations to Refuse Manager.
• Enter data/violations on tablet/computer; participate in safety, technical and team training.
