Job summary

The City of Brooklyn Center, MN is seeking a skilled mechanic to perform repairs and preventive maintenance on city equipment and vehicles. Responsibilities include major overhauls, welding, DOT inspections, and supporting snow and ice control operations. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and PubWorks is preferred.

Minimum qualifications include a vocational auto/truck program, 3 years experience, a Minnesota Class B CDL (or able to obtain within 6 months), and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited vocational training school in auto/truck mechanics or related field.
• Three years mechanic experience.
• Must possess a valid Minnesota Class B (CDL) driver\'s license or obtain within six months of employment.
• Must have computer skills including knowledge of on-line diagnostic software and MS Office or similar applications.

Responsibilities

• Performs repairs, including major overhauls, on equipment such as trucks up to 60,000 GVWR and city vehicles.
• Performs major service work on fuel, hydraulic, electrical, exhaust, suspension, steering, braking, drive train.
• Fabricates parts, mounts, and other accessories using metal fabrication and welding techniques.
• Installs electrical and other type accessories in City-owned equipment.
• Performs minor body and fender work, welding and/or prefabricating as required.
• Performs DOT annual inspections.
• Recommends repair or replacement of parts and/or entire equipment units.
• Prepares repair orders accurately for each job.
• Maintains parts inventory and assists in ordering parts and accessories.
• Enters work orders and parts used into PubWorks.
