Job summary

The City of Waite Park is seeking a skilled Mechanic to perform maintenance and diagnostics on the Public Works fleet, including small engines, cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, and heavy equipment.

The position emphasizes preventive maintenance, welding and fabrication, recordkeeping, and safe operation. A valid Class B CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements is required or must be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years’ experience in vehicle, equipment, and machinery repair and operations.
• Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, welding and minor building maintenance
• Ability to use diagnostic tools and software
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Must have a Valid Class B commercial driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements. (if you don't have, must obtain within 6 months of hire)

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicles and equipment to determine issues and repairs needed
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating parts
• Repair or replace broken or worn parts
• Test machinery after repairs to ensure proper functionality
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repairs done on vehicles and equipment
