Job summary

Gfoat is looking for an Assistant in Bedford, Texas, to support the Utilities and Environmental functions of the Public Works Department. Your main duties will include inspecting water meters, geolocating them, and confirming service line material. You will also rotate through various Public Works divisions, gaining diverse experience.

A high school diploma or GED is required, and a valid Texas Driver's License is essential. The position demands excellent customer service and documentation skills.

Job description

SUMMARY

This position will primarily assist the Utilities and Environmental functions of the Public Works Department by inspecting water meters, geolocating water meter locations, and confirming service line material. Additionally, the position will be rotated through the Public Works divisions of Water and Wastewater maintenance, Environmental, Engineering, Streets, Stormwater, and Traffic to gain experience and understanding of their functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Under the direction of the Utility Maintenance Supervisor, complete water service line inventories of residential and commercial water meters, pinpointing these water meter locations on a map by geo-tagging their locations.
2. Document the service address, meter number, and cellular endpoint identification number to complete an audit of all installed water appurtenances.
3. Input necessary data into the ESRI ArcGIS application, and document work with pictures.
4. Complete daily work orders for survey areas completed.
5. Identify any discrepancies in field investigations of water meters and services and inform the Environmental Specialist to conduct follow-up inspections.
6. Utilizing hand tools and specialized equipment related to the repairs of water and wastewater infrastructure.
7. Assisting other Public Works Divisions as needed, or when assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Ability to obtain a Texas B Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year of hire.
• Ability to obtain a Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one (1) year of hire.
