Job summary

The City of El Dorado is seeking an entry-level Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. The role involves operating and maintaining equipment and performing maintenance on streets, signage, drainage, and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Assists in maintaining the streets, alleys, parking lots, drainage areas.
• Responds to supervisor requests in a timely and accurate manner.
• Assists in installation and maintenance of City signs, road markings, striping and delineators; paints street lines and crosswalks.
• Performs concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter, and ramp installation and repair as required.
• Shows willingness to learn operating heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, trencher, dump trucks, bobcat) with emphasis on safety.

Compensation:

This position starts at $17.45* per hour. *Hourly rate may vary based on education, experience or qualifications.

*Regular, full time employees will be eligible for health insurance benefits on the first day of the month following sixty days of full time employment. Health insurance benefits include medical, prescription, dental and vision.

Position Summary:

Maintains and operates equipment and performs various maintenance duties within the Public Works Department including streets and infrastructure. Classification level will be based on mastery of skill and division needs.

Essential Functions:

Maintenance Activities

• Assists in maintaining the streets, alleys, parking lots, storm drainage areas, etc.
• Responds to requests by immediate supervisor in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
• Assists in the installation and maintenance of City signs, road markings, striping and delineators; paints street lines and crosswalks.
• Performs concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter, and ramp installation and repair as required.

Operating Equipment Activities

• Shows the desire to learn how to operate various heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoe, loader, trencher, dump trucks, and bobcat assuring for safety of self and others, and following proper operation procedures.

Experience: This is an entry level position, prior experience is not required. Employee is expected to acquire the necessary information and skills to perform the job satisfactorily within six months.

Certifications: Possession of a valid Kansas Driver's License. Possession of a valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within the first 90 days of employment.
