Job summary

The City of Heath seeks a Maintenance Worker- Parks to perform street maintenance, drainage upkeep, and related duties under regular supervision. You will patch roads and drains, trim trees, drive trucks, sweep streets, and assist the Public Works Department as needed.

Essential duties include using hand tools, operating equipment like jackhammers and mowers, and performing preventive maintenance on City vehicles and facilities. A Texas Class C license is required.

Job description

Under regular supervision, performs a variety of tasks in street repair, drainage and other maintenance of the Street Department. Work involves maintaining City services and operations by making necessary repairs to street drainage; performing duties necessary for the maintenance and repair of City streets; repairs streets and drainage; patching and overlaying roads; trimming trees; driving trucks; sweeping streets; servicing equipment; and digging drainage ditches. May also assist the Public Works Department with other duties as assigned.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports to: Public Works Division Manager

Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.

Other: Has contact with other City employees and the general public

Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties

• Patches and overlays roads
• Repairs storm drains
• Trims and cuts trees;
• Drives vehicles such as dump trucks;
• Sweeps streets;

• Services equipment.
• Directs traffic;
• Digs drainage ditches;
• Performs concrete work;
• Performs preventive maintenance on City vehicles, tools, and equipment and City facilities;
• Uses hand tools to dig ditches or holes, and shovels dirt, gravel, asphalt, or sand;
• Performs light maintenance and construction duties; and
• Operates a variety of equipment such as jackhammer, concrete saw, steel roller, chain saw, mowers, weed eater, pick axe, loader, asphalt tools and other public works equipment.
• Maintains on-call availability as required.

• Maintenance Principles: processes involved in upkeep of property and equipment to the optimum state of cleanliness, repair, and efficiency.

Education and Experience:

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Appropriate, valid class "C" Texas Driver's License.
