Job summary

The City of Murphy Public Works Department seeks to hire a Maintenance Worker II to support the city’s water, wastewater, roadway, and stormwater systems. You will perform a variety of maintenance tasks and operate equipment to ensure safe and reliable infrastructure.

This full-time role follows a 7am-4pm schedule, with growth opportunities within the pay grade. A strong focus on safety, record-keeping, and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 3 years of roadway and stormwater maintenance experience.
• 3 years of water and wastewater maintenance experience.
• Class D Water Distribution License required.
• Class C Water Distribution License required or to be obtained within 18 months.
• Class I Wastewater Collection License required or to be obtained within 18 months.
• Texas Class B CDL with tanker endorsement required or obtainable within 12 months.
• Must maintain a good driving record per City policy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Public Services Department equipment, vehicles, and tools and keep maintenance inspection records daily.
• Set up and maintain traffic control plans per TxMUTCD safety standards.
• Maintain and repair water and wastewater components including manholes, pipes, pumps, tanks, meters, and valves.
• Use chemicals such as degreasers, chlorine, caustic soda, and cleaners.
• Conduct daily inspections and data documentation for water and wastewater stations (including weekends).
• Maintain and repair stormwater components (bridges, culverts, channels, inlets, outfalls, curbs).
• Maintain, install, and replace signs and guard rails in City right of way.
• Maintain roadway components (striping, rpm, rights of way) and manage icing and barricades.
• Operate equipment (tractors, mowers, backhoes, loaders, excavators, etc.).
• Identify hazards and communicate status of work activities to supervisor.
• Adhere to safety rules and be ready for back-up duties.
• Assist other departments during emergencies and after incidents.
