Job summary

The City of Kodiak is seeking a Maintenance Technician I, II, or III to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work across city streets, facilities, and right-of-ways. The role requires safe operation of tools and equipment and independent judgment on public-health-related projects.

Essential duties include traffic control, pavement repair, sign installation, and routine upkeep of city buildings and landscapes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 2–3 years of maintenance/construction or trades experience preferred.
• Valid Alaska driver's license; CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and construction on city streets, facilities, and right-of-ways.
• Conduct traffic control and install barricades and signals; direct traffic around work sites.
• Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on fixtures and equipment.
• Operate heavy equipment after training for excavation, road repair, and sewer projects.
• Respond to emergency spill and cleanup events and manage safety on site.
• Lead and supervise temporary employees as needed.
