Job summary

City of Savannah seeks a Maintenance Worker to perform complex maintenance and repairs on public works projects. The role supports a crew, maintains grounds, and ensures water and piping systems operate safely and efficiently.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and relevant safety certifications. Tasks include cleaning facilities, landscaping, sprinkler care, and basic mechanical troubleshooting in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED; less than one year of related maintenance experience is acceptable.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Certifications in Confined Space Safety, ICS-100 and ICS-700, Bloodborne Pathogens, and traffic control flagging.

Responsibilities

• Assists an assigned crew; ensures the crew has adequate supplies to complete the assignment.
• Cleans offices, hallways, lunch and break rooms, meeting rooms, and stairways, including sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping; washing windows and mirrors; dusting furniture and fixtures; and emptying trash.
• Performs general grounds maintenance and landscaping including mowing, edging, trimming, planting, and mulching.
• Maintains sprinklers; repairs broken pipes as needed.
• Transports vehicles to city shop for routine maintenance and services as needed.
• Troubleshoots basic maintenance problems involving plumbing and equipment repair or replacement; painting; or related repair or installation.
• Maintains landscaping, storm drainage, and irrigation systems; treats plants and turf for disease; installs and maintains backflow prevention devices;
• Performs preventative maintenance on pumps and motors; monitors water quality and related systems.
• Estimates cost of repairs; selects and requisitions equipment; oversees work quality, timeliness, and safety; inspects completed work.
