City of Leawood, Kansas is hiring a Public Works Maintenance Worker to join our maintenance team. The role requires four 10-hour shifts, 6:00am–4:30pm, outdoors in all weather.

Starting pay is $22.06–$25.00 hourly with opportunities to learn and grow through on-the-job training. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, plus the ability to perform physically demanding work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Street Maintenance

• Assist with repairs, patching, and maintenance for the City’s asphalt and concrete foundations
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in roadwork and construction
• Support preparation, placement, and finishing of asphalt and concrete surfaces

Teamwork & Field Operations

• Work closely with crew members to complete projects safely and efficiently
• Follow direction from leadership while contributing to a positive team environment
• Help set up traffic control and maintain safe work zones

General Maintenance & Support

• Perform routine maintenance on streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure
• Assist with snow removal, storm response, and other seasonal Public Works activities
• Maintain equipment and report any issues or needed repairs

• Experience operating equipment such as dump trucks, rollers, or skid steers
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe

SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Typical schedule: four 10-hour shifts, 6:00am – 4:30pm (may vary by project)
• Overtime opportunities may occur during peak work periods, snow/ice events, or emergency response
• Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions
• This is a physically active, hands-on role with a team that relies on each other every day
