Job summary

The City of Brandon is seeking a Maintenance Worker for the Public Works Department to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks across water, sewer, streets and drainage infrastructure, and to operate diverse equipment including backhoes and trucks.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, plus related experience or three years as Laborer II, knowledge of safety hazards, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions, maintain reports, and assist crews in varying

Qualifications

• Standard high school, vocational school or equivalent plus one-year full-time related experience or
• Three years' experience as Laborer II or equivalent in applicable trades
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in water, sewer, streets, and drainage areas
• Knowledge of city geography
• Skilled in minor repair and maintenance of equipment
• Able to follow oral and written work instructions
• Able to prepare routine work reports
• Able to be dependable, punctual and assist co-workers when priorities change
• Able to operate an iPad or other smart device for documenting work and communication
• Able to operate equipment such as backhoe, track hoe, dump truck, power generator, mower/bush hog, weed eaters, street sweeper, and other equipment

Responsibilities

• Follow instructions of the superintendent
• Lead a crew in maintenance and repairs of water, sewer, streets, and drainage infrastructure
• Assess situations to make sound decisions and initiate maintenance and repairs
• Perform semi-skilled to skilled duties in trades related to water and sewer facilities and streets
• Operate a backhoe, track hoe, and other equipment as required
• Support other Public Works crews as needed
• Seasonal duties as required
• Practice safety at all times
