Job Duties and Responsibilities

The job duties and responsibilities listed below are those that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. • Work a forty (40) hour workweek, Monday through Friday, with the opportunity of overtime after serving a probationary period.
• Perform various tasks related to operating and maintaining city streets, equipment, vehicles, facilities, and tools.
• Handle a variety of materials, conduct clean-up activities, and support the city’s local festivals and parades.
• Operate snow removal vehicles and maintain city roadways and sidewalks.
• Drive and operate city vehicles and equipment, including mowing and weed-eating.
• Ability to address the general public tactfully and courteously, and to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees, public officials, and the general public.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisors or the City Manager.

Required Qualifications

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent education.
• Provide proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to work in the United States legally.
• Must possess a valid WV Class A or B driver’s license, or the ability to obtain it within 120 days of employment.
• The ability to drive a standard shift vehicle is preferred.
• Snow plowing and/or blacktop experience preferred.
• Must be willing to provide consent for a full and limited query through the FMCSA Clearinghouse with a “driver not prohibited” status when performing safety-sensitive duties for the city.
• Required to pass a professionally administered pre-employment drug (& alcohol for CDL) test, physical, background check, and random drug screenings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of general construction, repair, and maintenance principles.
• Experience in lawn care, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, masonry, truck driving, heavy equipment operation, or mechanics is preferred.
• Ability to work safely and possess effective verbal communication skills.
• Able to perform heavy manual work for extended periods.

Physical Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Duties:

This position is required to lift and/or move up to (50) pounds with or without assistance, push, pull, operate power tools and other controls. Employees are regularly required to stand, sit, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, climb, kneel, balance, squat, crawl, stretch, bend, maneuver in tight spaces, and use hands and fingers to handle equipment to perform duties. This position requires the ability to perform tasks involving strenuous physical labor around the city in varying weather conditions including wet, hot, and cold. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, peripheral, and color vision capabilities and the ability to adjust focus. Employees will frequently be exposed to odors, fumes, toxic conditions, air contaminants, dust, grease, high levels of noise and risk of bodily injury.
