Job summary

The City of Portland BES is seeking a Public Works Inspector to enforce codes on public works construction projects, ensuring quality, safety, and contract compliance on sites from underground utilities to street repairs.

In this full-time, on-site role you will review engineering plans, observe contractor work, prepare daily reports, coordinate materials testing, and conduct final walk-throughs with project teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with construction equipment and practices.
• Ability to establish working relationships with diverse groups.
• Ability to read and comprehend technical construction documents.
• Understanding and application of construction safety practices.
• Skill in performing area, volume, and percentage calculations.
• Effective oral and written communication for reports and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Provide reviews of engineering plans, specifications and contract documents for civil construction projects.
• Observe and verify contractor compliance with plans, drawings, and stipulations.
• Inspect and prepare daily reports on methods, quality of work, and safety on site.
• Coordinate and monitor testing of materials for quality of work.
• Prepare and conduct final walk-throughs and documentation for progress payments and as-builts.
