Job summary

Gwinnett County Government seeks an employee to operate heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of public works infrastructure and to assist in training new employees. This is a safety sensitive position requiring a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.

Qualifications

• Training and Experience up through the eighth grade and one year of related maintenance experience or equivalent.
• The position requires operating heavy equipment and performing related maintenance tasks.
• Ability to read blueprints and communicate effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Operates various complex vehicles and equipment and performs related labor duties for public works infrastructure.
• Maintains proper traffic control at work sites for safety of crew and public.
• Performs daily inventory checks on service trucks and obtains tools/equipment.
• Transports materials and heavy equipment to work sites.
• Inspects roads, bridges, and related facilities for safe conditions.
• Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance on tools/equipment.
• Cleans and repairs manholes and maintains sewer lines as needed.
• Provides landscaping maintenance and erosion/drainage improvements.
• Repairs pipes and roads, and supports water mains and hydrants.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned.
